‘Mobile Gasoline’

A striking image of the gasoline price sign at the Mobile Station at the intersection of Van Nuys Boulevard and Burbank Boulevard, one of my favorites.

SKU: VN Blvd.-073-23 Category:

The not too happy young man sitting at the base of the sign is Aitan Levy, 14 years old at the time. He was waiting for his ride home after attending a ‘retro’ style party nearby. Some family members had chosen the clothes he was wearing, and he wasn’t happy with their choices. Now he will perhaps be remembered as the funny dressed kid in my sign photograph.

Love the gas prices too. I had no idea when I captured this image that barely a year later gas prices would soar due to the Oil Embargo. The muscle car era was already nearing its end, and the coming high cost of fuel would help to finish both the concept of muscle cars and of ‘cruising.’
